Visiting the holy shrine of Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) by Imam Sajjad and Sadiq (peace be upon them)

The shrine of Hazrat Amirul Momineen (peace be upon him) was still hidden until Imam Zain al-Abidin (peace be upon him) visited the shrine in its present place for the first time.

After that, in the days of the first caliph of Bani Abbas, Abu al-Abbas Safah, when Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, came to Kufa between 132 and 136 AH, and after that for 12 years, when Abu Ja’far Mansour, the second Abbasid caliph, was in office, and many times Imam Sadiq He called the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) from Madinah to Kufa, Hira and Hashimiya and in fact attracted him. In every trip, the Holy Prophet with one or more of his special companions went to visit the shrine of Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) and showed them its location.

Until then, he had tried to hide the location of the grave in order to be safe from the attacks of Khawarij and Bani Umayyads, but during the time of Bani Abbas, when there was no longer any danger to the shrine of the Prophet, that sensitivity disappeared during a trip of Hazrat Sadiq, peace be upon him, a few dirhams to Safan Jamal. He gave to restore the ruins of the grave that had been lost, after that he would visit for 20 years and pray next to the grave. However, only the Shia elites knew about the grave and the general public was not aware of it.

Taking refuge in the sanctum sanctorum of Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him

The unveiling of the grave of the Prophet was officially visited during the time of Harun al-Rashid, that is, almost one hundred years after the martyrdom of Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, and his burial in that holy place.

Shaykh Mofid writes: Abdullah bin Hazim narrates that he said that I went to hunt deer with Harun al-Rashid, the powerful Abbasid caliph, who had come to Kufa, in the desert behind Kufa in the Gharein region, which had a wide open plain. They gave the deer a chance to be in the Caliph’s crosshairs, on that day suddenly Harun’s eyes fell on a herd of deer and he followed them. The hunters released the hunting hounds to prevent the deer from escaping. They slept and rested.

The hunters and Aaron saw that the hounds and hunting hawks reached that height, each of them was thrown to one side, and the deer came down without any fear from the height. But every time the greyhounds and their hunting hawks tried to climb a height, they would mysteriously fall.

Construction of the first mausoleum for the shrine of Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him

Harun and his companions observed this situation three times. The hunters were surprised and the Caliph was surprised when he saw this scene. Harun ordered them to pitch a tent for him at the same height and ordered them to go to Kufa to find an old man who knows about the situation in this place. and bring to him.

They found and brought an old man of Fertut from Bani Asad tribe

Haroun asked the old man: Does he know anything about this place and has he heard about it from his ancestors?

The old man said: If the caliph gives me security that I and this place will be safe, I will give him the information I have.

Harun said: I swear to God that no harm will come to you or this place from my side.

The old man said that my father told me that during his father’s time, the Shiites believed that this hill is the burial place of Hazrat Amir al-Mu’minin Ali, peace be upon him, that God has placed this place as his safe haven, and whoever takes refuge there will be safe.

Harun, who was riding a horse at that time, dismounted, asked for water, performed ablution, stood for prayer, then threw himself on the ground and wept and lamented over the death of Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) and rubbed himself on the ground. Then he ordered to build a dome on that pure tarbat, and every time he came to Kufa, he went to visit him.

In this way, the tomb of Amirul Momineen was discovered by one of his enemies, and it became a public and special place of pilgrimage.

Harun’s acknowledgment of the grace and superiority of Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

Muhammad Ayesha says that I heard this incident from Abdullah bin Hazem, but my heart was not ready to accept it until a few days later I went to Hajj and saw Yasir, the saddler of Harun. He said: One of the nights when Harun and I came back from Makkah and came to Kufa. Harun said Yasir tell Isa bin Jafar, Harun’s cousin, to get on board.

But Harun went up the hill and stood in prayer, every two rakats of the prayer he was praying, he cried and fell to the ground and rolled and said: Cousin, by God, I know your grace and history in Islam and because of your honest service. It is because of Islam that I have reached this position. You are as I said, but your children are harassing me and rebelling against me.1 And he wanted to get up again and pray and repeat the same words and pray and cry.

When it dawned, he said to me, Yasser, pick up Isa, I picked him up, Aaron said to him, Jesus, get up and pray next to the grave of your cousin, Jesus said, this is the grave of Ali bin Abi Talib, Jesus also performed ablution and stood to pray, Aaron continued. He prays until dawn. I said, “Amir, it’s morning.” So we got on board and returned to Kufa.2

  1. This is the excuse worse than the sin. He accepts Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, who has passed away, but Imam Musa bin Jafar, peace be upon him, whose grandfather, Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, said that in his time, the caliph is against the rights of Muslims and other revolutionary leaders who are against oppression and oppression. They have revolted, he complains to His Holiness↩︎
