According to IRNA, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday, local time, to reporters: “Based on my recent trip to the region and the work that is currently underway, we have made good progress in achieving this agreement.”He added that understanding the requirements for the effective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 forms the basis for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.Blinken continued: “There needs to be transparency on both the Lebanese and Israeli sides to effectively implement Resolution 1701.”Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced yesterday that “Amos Hochstein,” the U.S. special envoy, is on his way to the occupied territories, and we hope that a ceasefire in Lebanon will be established in the coming hours.Mikati added: “Our condition for a ceasefire is the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the deployment of the Lebanese army along the borders. We are fully ready to implement it. The full implementation of Resolution 1701 will lead to long-term peace in southern Lebanon.”Mikati further stated that the ceasefire must be guaranteed by the U.S., and we have no option but to implement Resolution 1701.
