:On the first day of Bashar al-Assad’s fall, Israel occupied parts of Syrian territory. According to Asriran, at the same time, Israeli fighter jets bombed military and security centers in Damascus. The Israeli army, at the ground border in the Golan Heights and Quneitra province, entered Syrian territory and occupied new areas. This happened in the mountainous region of “Jabal al-Sheikh.” Israeli soldiers also reached the Syrian city of Baath in the Golan border region after entering Syrian territory in Quneitra province.Occupation of Syrian Territory: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during his visit to the Golan border, said, “We are talking about a historic day. The Assad regime fell after our strikes against Hezbollah and Iran.”Netanyahu also stated that he would cancel the disengagement agreement with Syria (signed in 1947) because the withdrawal of Syrian military posts from observation points effectively nullified the agreement. This agreement established a buffer zone between Israeli and Syrian forces and allowed the presence of United Nations peacekeepers in the Golan. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the occupation of new parts of the buffer and border zone between Israel and Syria in the Golan was done to ensure security for Israelis. The Israeli army stated that since Syrian soldiers left their positions along the border in the Jabal al-Sheikh region, Israeli soldiers entered and stationed themselves there. The Israeli army explained that the action was to strengthen their defensive positions, fill the gap left by Syrian forces, and prevent jihadist (Islamist) forces from approaching the area. After the announcement of the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, Syrian soldiers at the border with Israel changed their uniforms and left the border region. During the Six-Day War (1967), Israel occupied the Golan Heights and later annexed it to its official territory. The United Nations and all countries consider this area as occupied. However, in 2019, US President Donald Trump officially recognized it as part of Israeli territory. The Golan Heights is less than 100 kilometers from Damascus.Airstrike on Damascus: Additionally, Israeli fighter jets bombed military and security centers in Damascus. The bombing caused a large fire. Israeli Army Radio reported that during these strikes, the Scientific Research Center, which manages ballistic missile and chemical weapon programs, was hit.
